I worked for over forty years in the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). During those years I have been involved with

• Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax

• HR and Health and Safety
• Asset valuations
• Policy making
• Productivity Business Improvement and Continuous Improvement
• Finance and Budgets
• Organisational design

As Group Valuation Officer (GVO) for Manchester,  I had overall responsibility for the valuations for business rates of over 100,000 business with a total rateable value in excess of £2.7bn for the 2010 Revaluation and the banding for Council Tax of 1.2m dwellings for all the local authorities of Greater Manchester. 

I directly managed 10 principal surveyors and indirectly around 30 senior surveyors.​ 

I also spent seven years within the Finance team dealing with business and systems improvement, financial monitoring, and organisational design.

 I am a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which is the governing body for Chartered Surveyors worldwide. 

I am also a life member of the Institute of Management Services (IMS), the UK's principal professional body concerned with productivity improvement techniques collectively known as Management Services.
